More awards for Oscar-tipped Atonement
Time period drama 'Atonement' has picked up another emcee of awards in advance of the Oscars.
It received four-spot prizes at the inaugural Richard Attenborough Celluloid Awards: Best Film, Filmmaker of the twelvemonth for director Joe Orville Wright, Actor of the Year for James McAvoy and Film writer of the Year for Saint Christopher Hampton.
'Atonement' star Keira Knightley missed come out of the closet on the Topper Actress award, which went instead to Cate Blanchett for 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age'.
SAM James Whitcomb Riley was named Rising Star of the Year for his breakthrough performance as Joyfulness Division frontman Ian Curtis in 'Control'.
At the ceremony, innkeeper Richard Attenborough said: "The last year has shown cinema to be both resilient and innovative, with large audiences eager to savour the unique theatrical performance feel."
He added: "It has besides brought a superb crop of terrific films with compelling performances from both experienced and newly talents. I extend my warmest congratulation to this admirable set of winners."
'Atonement', an adaption of Ian McEwan's bestselling novel, has been nominated for seven-spot Oscars, including Best Scene and Topper Support Actress for 13-year-old Irish actress Saoirse Ronan.
It is in contention for 14 awards at the BAFTAs, which will take place on Lord's Day 10 Feb.
